The Tawny turns up the heat on wellness
New sauna, steam room, and nature-led experiences invite guests to slow down, switch off, and reconnect this autumn
There’s an exciting new addition coming to The Tawny this autumn, with the launch of a brand-new sauna and steam room, creating a new space for rest and relaxation and marking the next chapter in the hotel's evolving approach to restorative hospitality.
Set within 70 acres of rewilded gardens, woodland, and lakes, The Tawny is a place to truly slow down and reconnect with nature. Days can be spent wandering among the estate’s historic follies, swimming in the heated outdoor pool, or enjoying treatments in the tranquil Thatched Cottage Treatment Room. The bedrooms themselves are designed to bring the outdoors in, with treehouses, suites, shepherds’ huts, and boathouses dotted throughout the woodland, each with their own private outdoor spa bath. Now, with a new sauna and steam room joining the outdoor pool, The Tawny brings its wellness offering together in one immersive setting, giving guests even more reason to make time for wellbeing during their stay.
And there’s more to come. The investment forms part of a wider vision for wellness at The Tawny, with an expanding calendar of yoga, Pilates, and nature-led experiences planned throughout the year, alongside further additions set to arrive in 2027.
New sauna and steam room
Overlooking the lake, the new sauna – The Laund Pool – has been designed to make the most of its natural surroundings, with a long timber bench framed by floor-to-ceiling windows – offering uninterrupted views across the estate, accompanied by relaxing background music. Guests can move between the heat of the sauna and a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool, whatever the weather.
The new Rousseau’s Cave Steam Room draws inspiration from the estate’s rich heritage, continuing The Tawny’s approach of preserving the history of the estate and bringing it to life through new experiences. The atmospheric space is clad in sandstone reclaimed from nearby Wootton Hall, where philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau famously wrote part of his Confessions in 1766. Softly lit, and infused with aromatic essences, it offers a quiet, contemporary nod to the estate’s past – and a perfect place to retreat to when autumn arrives.
New wellness experiences
Alongside the new facilities, The Tawny is expanding its calendar of curated wellness events, which so far has featured Pilates & Plunge and a Full Moon Ritual, with a floating sound bath in the outdoor heated pool during sunset.
On 10 September, The Soft Reset experience will offer exactly that: a gentle post-summer pause, combining outdoor yoga overlooking the estate, with time to enjoy the hotel’s wellness facilities. Lunch will also be served at the hotel’s 3 AA Rosette restaurant, The Plumicorn, with wellness drinks made with foraged ingredients and produce from the kitchen garden.
Further dates and events are planned throughout autumn and winter, with more opportunities for both guests and locals to slow down, reset, and reconnect.
More to come
Looking ahead to spring 2027, The Tawny will introduce Guided Forest Bathing Meditation, inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku. Guests will be guided into the surrounding ancient woodland for an immersive sensory experience centred around its sights, sounds, and scents, before heading back to make the most of the hotel’s wellness facilities.
Further spa and wellness additions are also planned for 2027, building on The Tawny’s reputation for great stays, brilliant food, time in nature, and a proper reset.
Josh Chadwick, General Manager at The Tawny Hotel, says: “Nature has always done a lot of the hard work for us at The Tawny. With 70 acres of woodland, lakes, and wildlife on the doorstep, you naturally slow down as soon as you arrive. The new sauna and steam room mean we can now offer guests much more of a complete wellness experience alongside the outdoor pool, treatments and everything there is to do across the estate.
The response to our wellness events this year has been fantastic, showing us that guests are increasingly looking for experiences that help them properly switch off. It’s something we’re really excited to continue developing over the next two years. We want The Tawny to be somewhere you come away from feeling like you’ve properly switched off.”
The new sauna and steam room will welcome hotel guests from early autumn 2026, with further wellness additions planned for 2027.
The new sauna and steam room is available exclusively for guests of The Tawny daily from 10am – 6pm. B&B stays start from £290 per night.
